The current research aimed to explore the factors influencing EFL undergraduate students’ use of artificial intelligence at the Department of English, University of Jijel. Given its descriptive nature, the study adopted a quantitative research approach through using two questionnaires as research tools to collect the required data and reach the study’s aims. The first questionnaire, the student questionnaire, was handed to 153 out of 794 EFL undergraduates. The second one, the teacher questionnaire, was designed and distributed to 21 EFL teachers out of 60 teachers at the Department of English, University of jijel to elicit their views on the use of AI in the EFL context. The findings revealed that EFL undergraduates extensively use artificial intelligence tools in their EFL learning, with ChatGPT being the most utilized tool. Importantly, the study identified that English proficiency level, perceived need, accessibility and flexibility, and perceived effectiveness are among the key factors affecting undergraduates' use of artificial intelligence in EFL learning. Finally, the results showed that EFL teachers generally hold positive views on the use of artificial intelligence in the EFL context, despite having some concerns. However, it was found that they do not specifically influence their students’ use of artificial intelligence.
