Vocabulary is considered as one of the most important component to be mastered when
learning a foreign language. Failure to comprehend the text or subject, as well as the lack
of vocabulary, are common issues among EFL learners . As a result, they attempt to use
some techniques such as subtitled English movies to learn new vocabulary with its
pronunciation and spelling. The aim of this research is to investigate teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards the role of subtitled English movies in enhancing vocabulary recognition. Two online questionnaires were administered; one to ten oral expression teachers in the
department of English at Mohammed Seddik Ben Yahia University –Jijel and the second to, sixty five, first year students at the same university. The results obtained from the
questionnaires confirmed the research assumptions, that both teachers and students hold
positive attitudes toward the usefulness of subtitled English movies on enhancing
