Résumé:
The aim of this study is to investigate the student’s perceptions towards the use of bilingual
and monolingual dictionaries in enriching vocabulary of third year students at the
department of English at Mohammed Seddik Ben yahia university ,Jijel .It is hypothesized
that if EFL learners would have a positive perception towards the use of bilingual and
monolingual dictionaries in enhancing their vocabulary. To test our hypothesis, a
descriptive study was conducted through forming a questionnaire submitted for third year
students which was our data gathering tool. The questionnaire was distributed to sixty (60)
third year students, to investigate which type of dictionaries students mostly use, for what
purpose, and what kind of tasks they mostly use it. It is also aimed at finding the students
point of view towards the use of bilingual and monolingual dictionaries in enriching their
vocabulary. Generally speaking, this questionnaire aimed at investigating student’s choices
and preferences concerning bilingual and monolingual dictionaries and the purpose behind
those choices. The results revealed that students do have a positive perception towards the
use of bilingual and monolingual dictionaries; whereas, students mainly choose the type of
dictionary that fits their learning style, the type that is easier to use and which suits their
needs and thoughts depending on their learning language experience
