dc.description.abstract The current study is an investigation of the reading strategies used by second year students in the Department of English at Mohammed Seddik Ben Yahia , Jijel University while reading short stories. In this study, it is assumed that second year students of English at Mohammed Seddik Ben Yahia University do not have a variation in using reading strategies while reading short stories. In order to answer the research questions, one data collection tool was used namely a questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to a sample of (40) second year students out of (250) students at the Department of English. It aimed to identify which reading strategies are used by second year students of English while reading short stories. The findings of this research indicated that second year students have a moderate use of the three types of reading strategies ( global, support, problem-solving reading strategies) . The dissertation ends with pedagogical recommendations fr_FR
