Abstract
The aim of this study is to explore EFL teachers’ perspectives in the department of
English at the University of Mohammed Saddik Ben Yahia concerning the
incorporation of artificial intelligence tools in customizing authentic materials to
enhance students’ proficiency. Accordingly, this study departed from the assumption
that EFL teachers hold positive attitudes towards the use of artificial intelligence tools
in customizing authentic materials and they would be more open to integrate those
tools to adapt authentic materials if they are trained on how to use them effectively.
For the sake of answering the research questions and verifying the assumption, a
mixed method approach was employed combining both quantitative and qualitative
methods. In order to gather quantitative data, a survey using a questionnaire was
administered to 40 EFL teachers at the department of English at the University of
Mohammed Saddik Ben Yahia. As for qualitative data, a prototype demonstration
followed by an interview was conducted with six EFL teachers in the same
department. Based on the analysis of the gathered data, it was confirmed that EFL
teachers held positive attitudes towards the use of artificial intelligence tools in
customizing authentic materials.
