Résumé:
This research investigated the relationship between the Big Five personality traits (Openness to
Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism) and academic
motivation among undergraduate students of English at the University of Jijel, Algeria. It is
hypothesized that there is a significant relationship between personality and academic motivation.
Employing a quantitative approach, a correlational method was used to test this hypothesis. Data
was collected from 80 undergraduate students of English using two validated instruments: the Big
Five Inventory (BFI) to assess personality traits and an Academic Motivation Scale. The data was
processed and analyzed using IBM SPSS software version 28. Contrary to the initial hypothesis,
the statistical results revealed a weak positive relationship between the participants’ personality
traits and their academic motivation level. This finding suggests that learners scoring higher in
certain personality traits may exhibit lower academic motivation, and vice versa
