Teaching the Past Simple and Past Continuous through the Mobile Application of “English Grammar: Learn & Test

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the effect of teaching the past simple and past continuous using the mobile application "English Grammar: Learn & Test" on pupils’ mastery of these tenses. It was hypothesized that using the mobile application “English Grammar: Learn & Test” for teaching the past simple and past continuous would significantly improve students’ accuracy in using these tenses compared to those taught without this application/ traditional methods of teaching. To test this hypothesis, an experimental design was adopted. The study included two groups of pupils, each consisting of 15 participants, and lasted for two weeks. Both groups underwent a pre-test and a post- test to assess their mastery of the past simple and past continuous. The experimental group received instruction using the application, while the control group was taught traditionally using teacher-led lessons.
